About IDT
Our Story
Founded in 1992 by Paul E. Szemplinski, CEO, IDT was established on the belief that the future of business information management would extend far beyond paper. At the time, document imaging was an emerging technology—expensive, complex, and limited in capability—but its promise was unmistakable. IDT entered the Midwest market representing M.A.R.S. (Multi-user, Archival and Retrieval System), an innovative product from MicroDynamics, Ltd. of Silver Spring, Maryland, founded by Audrey and Jim Landford.
M.A.R.S. was the industry’s first document imaging platform built entirely on the Apple Macintosh, chosen for its built-in graphical user interface, mouse, and networking capabilities—advantages that IBM PCs did not offer out of the box. As the PC market matured, MicroDynamics and IDT adapted by developing a Windows version of M.A.R.S., becoming an early entrant in the cross-platform application space.
Jim Landford, a former NASA scientist, was one of the true visionaries behind this innovation. Before document scanners were commercially available, he engineered a fax machine to perform scanning functions, anticipating the future of digital document capture. He also envisioned a time when users would navigate digital pages as easily as turning the pages of a book—once computing power and network speeds made it possible. IDT was founded in that same spirit of innovation and foresight.
A few years later,
James P. Raboin joined IDT as CTO, strengthening the company’s technical leadership and helping guide its long-term growth. Today, with more than three decades in business and
125+ years of combined industry knowledge, IDT is a trusted consulting and systems integration firm serving
enterprise and mid-market organizations nationwide, delivering strategic consulting, cloud and on-premises enterprise content services, case management, global cloud fax and SMS solutions, document imaging and intelligent document processing, ETL and paper conversion services, systems integration, software development and post sales support services.
